Rebecca Sonali Alfred graduated with an LLB (Hons.) from the University of Reading in 2015. Upon the completion of her Bar Professional Training Course at City Law School, London, Rebecca was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2016 as a member of the Honourable Society of Middle Temple. Following her admission to the High Court of Malaya as an Advocate & Solicitor in 2017, Rebecca commenced practice in the Employment Practice team headed by Dato’ Thavalingam C. Thavarajah at one of the largest legal firms in Malaysia until October 2020.
Her primary area of practice is in employment-related litigation and other industrial disputes, where she advises and acts for government-linked and local entities. Rebecca has extensive experience appearing together with Dato’ Thavalingam in the High Court and appellate courts on a range of matters, such as challenging ministerial decisions and Industrial Court awards.
She regularly advises clients in relation to contentious and non-contentious employment related matters, ranging from mutual separation schemes, trade disputes, restructuring exercises, non-renewal of fixed term contracts, staff discipline and performance management as well as termination of employment.
Rebecca has presented on employment and labour law issues including mutual separation schemes.
